Milton Cleaners

Your clothes never leave the block.

Dry cleaning, tailoring, and laundry done on the premises at 1287 Madison Ave — in Carnegie Hill since long before it was fashionable.

Best neighborhood dry cleaner on the Upper East Side.”

Why people on this block have used us for years

Three things, none of which are marketing claims you cannot check by walking in.

Nothing leaves the building

Our dry cleaning machine is on the premises and approved by the New York State DEC. The person who takes your ticket can walk back and look at your jacket, which is not true of a drop shop.

Priced for a neighborhood

We are on Madison Avenue and we have never priced like it. Rates are quoted at the counter, honestly, for the garment you are actually holding.

The same people, every time

A family shop, open since before most of the block looked the way it does now. Your starch preference, your hem length, and your name are all remembered.

More about the shop

Everything in the closet, not just the good suit

Cashmere and chiffon get the careful treatment, and so does the pile of shirts you wear to work. Both are handled by the same people in the same building.

  • A stack of folded cashmere and lambswool sweaters

    Knitwear

  • Seven pressed dress shirts folded in a grid

    Dress shirts

  • A mint chiffon dress on a plain background

    Silk and chiffon

  • Three light summer tops on wooden hangers

    Everyday clothing

  • A coral evening dress on a plain background

    Evening wear

We will come and get it. There is no charge for that.

Most of our regulars never come into the shop. We collect from your building — with your doorman, if that is easier — and bring everything back cleaned and pressed on a schedule that repeats without you arranging it each week.

Absolute magical miracle workers ! Kim was so amazing quickly turned around my dress as I had a last minute dress that was occasion ready. I can't thank them enough. The dress looks basically brand new.

At the last moment I needed my wedding dress taken in (it was the next day) Mrs. Kim, and their regular seamstress kindly took me in did all of the pins and MANY alterations for the next day, and they absolutely saved the day . 3 other dry cleaners in the neighborhood had turned me down. (My wedding was amazing) Since then I've used them for the last 6 years and they always get out the worst stains (Rips) and runs. So grateful to have a legit dry cleaner in the neighborhood. They are worth every dollar. So thankful to have them there!

How often should you dry clean a suit?

Less often than you think, and more often than you probably do. A practical schedule for suits, coats, shirts, and knits — and why over-cleaning wears clothes out faster than wearing them.

What to do about a stain before you reach the cleaners

The first sixty seconds decide whether a stain comes out. What to do at the table, what to never do, and why club soda and a hotel hair dryer have ruined more clothes than red wine ever has.

Wedding gown cleaning and preservation, start to finish

Why the stains you cannot see are the ones that ruin a gown, how soon to bring it in, and how to decide between boxing and hanging when you store it.
