Tailoring and alterations
A tailor works on the premises, so fittings, adjustments, and repairs happen here rather than in a queue somewhere else.
Good clothes rarely fit off the rack, and clothes you already love rarely stay the same size as you. Our tailoring is done on the premises by people who do this every day, which means you can be measured, come back, and be measured again without your garment leaving the shop.
Fit work
Hems on trousers, skirts, and dresses, taken up or let down, with the original cuff rebuilt where there is one. Waists taken in or let out. Sleeves shortened from the cuff or, on a jacket with working buttonholes or detail at the wrist, from the shoulder where that is the only honest way to do it.
Jackets tapered through the body, shoulders adjusted, and trousers slimmed through the leg. We will tell you when an alteration is not worth doing — when the seam allowance is not there, or when the change would fight the way the garment was cut.
Repairs
Split seams, torn linings, replaced zippers, reinforced pockets, moth holes rewoven, and buttons matched and replaced. Coats get new linings; trousers get the crotch and inseam rebuilt long before the fabric elsewhere is finished.
A repair almost always costs less than the replacement, and on a well-made garment it is usually the better decision. Bring it in and we will say plainly whether it is worth it.
Before an event
If you are wearing something to a wedding, an interview, or a benefit, come in at least a week ahead. Alterations that need a second fitting need time between them, and rush work on a garment that matters is how mistakes happen. Common questions
Do I need an appointment for a fitting?
No. Come in during opening hours with the shoes you plan to wear with the garment — hem length is meaningless without them.
Can you alter something I did not buy from a store nearby?
Yes. We work on garments from anywhere, including pieces bought online that arrived a size off.
How long do alterations take?
Simple hems are usually a few days. Jacket work, linings, and anything needing a second fitting take longer. You will get a real date when you drop off.
Can you clean and alter in the same visit?
Yes, and it is usually the right order — cleaning first, so the fabric has already done any shrinking before it is cut to fit you.
